I’ve always been frustrated by the fact that every distribution of Linux comes with programming tools. Windows doesn’t. A clean installation of Windows needs another round of downloads and installs to compile/run a simple program/script.
Now, with the boom of RIAs, I found Metacoding.
Metacoding is an online AJAX based IDE that supports ASP.Net, C#, C++, Fortran, HTML, Java, Javascript, PHP, VB.NET.
“Here is an overview of the features included in MetaCoding:
* Line Counter
* Time Counter
* Syntax Highlighting
* Online Compiling
o C++
o C#
o Java
o VB.NET
* User Friendly Interface”
You can do whatever you’d like, and you get the result included in the project (exe, jar, etc.). First I was “Hey, I want a console output”. Then, after I had some ideas about what I’d like to do to the site if this worked, I understood this.
This is perfect, mostly for the quick and dirty things you have to do for a school lab or something.
BUT,
Please note that Opera does not support Syntax Highlighting yet.
Bummer
