You kind of implied that LinkedIn gets you nowhere…(”I never liked LinkedIn and I don’t recall reading about a person actually getting recruited because of his LinkedIn profile”).

I beg to differ.
I personally know a person that got contacted by google due to a LinkedIn profile.
